AC Milan forced to officially deny reports of legendary captain's death

AC Milan was forced to publish an official denial on Wednesday following false rumors spread on social media, according to which club legend and honorary vice president Franco Baresi had passed away.

In the evening hours, reports began to circulate on social media claiming that the 66-year-old Baresi was no longer alive. The rumors spread quickly until AC Milan decided to respond officially:

"We deny the false reports about Franco Baresi that began to spread in the last few minutes. Franco is going through a difficult and sensitive period, and the club stands fully by his side and his family. We ask everyone to respect their privacy and refrain from spreading information that has no basis whatsoever."

In August 2025, Baresi revealed that he had undergone surgery to remove a lung nodule and subsequently began immunotherapy treatment.

Baresi is considered one of the greatest symbols in the history of AC Milan. He grew up in the club's youth academy and played exclusively for the Rossoneri from 1977 until his retirement in 1997.

During his career, he recorded 716 official appearances, scored 33 goals, and provided 24 assists. He won three European Cups (Champions League) with AC Milan, six Italian championships, and two Intercontinental Cups, in addition to three European Super Cups and four Italian Super Cups.

Since October 2020, Baresi has served as the honorary vice president of AC Milan, after having filled various roles in the club over the years, including as a coach in the youth academy.
