Scaloni to Lead Argentina Through 2030

Despite recent rumors surrounding his future, Lionel Scaloni has agreed to extend his contract as head manager of the Argentina national football team through the 2030 World Cup, according to reports in Argentine media.

Journalist Fernando Czyz of Doble Amarilla reported that Scaloni and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) reached a full agreement on a four-year extension following successful negotiations regarding financial terms and the sporting project.

The new agreement will follow a two-year structure through the 2028 Copa América, with an automatic two-year extension option leading up to the 2030 World Cup, subject to mutual agreement.

Official Announcement Expected in November

Negotiations between Scaloni and AFA President Claudio Tapia advanced significantly during the recent international break, following Lionel Messi's farewell match with the Albiceleste. The parties finalized financial details and long-term sporting plans.

Key details of the upcoming schedule include:

  • Official contract signing scheduled for the November international window.

  • Argentina faces Uruguay at La Bombonera on November 13.

  • Match against Costa Rica in Córdoba on November 17.

This agreement puts an end to uncertainty regarding Scaloni's continuity after his previous contract was set to expire in December. Having led Argentina to glory in the 2021 and 2024 Copa América tournaments, as well as the 2022 World Cup, Scaloni is now poised to oversee the ongoing generational transition.
