The government will approve this morning, Sunday, the allocation of an additional one billion shekels to the Ministry of Defense in 2026 for classified and urgent security procurement.
The budgetary source for this decision consists of 850 million shekels from the Ministry of Economy and Industry budget, originally intended to encourage investments in the technology sector but left unutilized, alongside 150 million shekels from reserved budgets of previous government decisions that remained unallocated.
About three months ago, the Ministry of Defense announced that the Ministerial Committee had approved the purchase of two new fighter squadrons of F-35 aircraft manufactured by Lockheed Martin and a squadron of F-15IA manufactured by Boeing. The Ministry of Defense stated that the scope of the deals is estimated at tens of billions of shekels and includes the integration of the squadrons into the Air Force, comprehensive support, spare parts, and logistics.
A month earlier, following a report on Channel 13 News regarding the repeated postponement of the Ministerial Committee for Procurement Affairs meeting, the committee approved the Ministry of Defense's plan for a significant acceleration of the production of Arrow interceptors at Israel Aerospace Industries on a large scale.
