Druze leader in Syria: "We are an inseparable part of Israel"
At a recently held gathering, the Druze leader emphasized that stability in the Bashan region could serve as the basis for regional stability. According to him, achieving stability will lead to the realization of full sovereign rights and self-determination in the region.
The leader of the Druze in southern Syria, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, stated at a recent gathering that, from his perspective, members of his community are an inseparable part of the State of Israel.
"Even in terms of doctrine, we are partners with the State of Israel. Historically, we as Druze have been an inseparable part of the State of Israel. We are interested in preserving this idea and this state," said al-Hijri, whose seat is on the Druze Mountain in the As-Suwayda province. "We hope that the rest of the region will follow this humanitarian example."
According to him, "We hope for peace at the regional level, but the first thing that interests us is stability in the Bashan region, as it may be the first brick in building stability at the regional level. When stability is achieved in the Bashan region, it will take its full sovereign rights and its right to self-determination."
Since the escalation and massacres in southern Syria in the summer of 2025, the Druze leader in the region, al-Hijri, has publicly demanded the establishment of a separate state or autonomy in the region and to separate from the central government of Syria.
