Haredi singer and paytan Avishai Levi killed in a car accident in Jerusalem

Singer and paytan Avishai Levi, a 46-year-old resident of Har Shmuel, was killed on Friday in a car accident in Jerusalem. The incident occurred while he was working as a driver, a job he primarily performed on Fridays.

According to witnesses at the scene, Levi stepped out of his vehicle to retrieve suitcases from the trunk. Noticing the car beginning to roll, he ran toward the door to stop it, only to be crushed against a nearby pillar.

Medics and paramedics from MADA provided emergency medical treatment at the scene. He was evacuated to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in critical condition with severe head and chest injuries, while resuscitation efforts were underway. Shortly after arrival, medical teams were forced to declare his death.

"We saw the injured man trapped, unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, with very severe injuries to his body. During the rescue operations, we provided him with life-saving medical treatment that included prolonged resuscitation efforts and evacuated him to the hospital in critical condition while we fought for his life," said Eli Raymond, a medic from the MADA motorcycle unit.

In his youth, Avishai Levi was celebrated as a "wonder child" of Mizrahi music. He performed extensively in Israel and abroad, appeared on numerous programs, and provided musical accompaniment for Shabbatot, Bar Mitzvahs, Brit Milahs, weddings, Torah scroll dedication ceremonies, and Hilulot. He was expected to marry off his daughter in a few months.

Police confirmed that the accident on Adoniyahu HaCohen Street is being treated as a single-vehicle incident. Traffic accident investigators from the Jerusalem District have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy.
