Captain Ella with a warning to Gazans: "Soon your money will be worthless"
IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Captain Ella Waweya warned Gaza residents of economic fraud by Hamas, stating that the leadership is paying them with old-series banknotes that will soon lose their value.
IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Ella Waweya, known as "Captain Ella", published a warning on Monday to residents of the Gaza Strip regarding old-series banknotes in their possession, claiming they are victims of "economic fraud".
"You are currently living in a state of economic fraud, and it is time to open your eyes. The money in your possession could lose its value completely at any moment," she wrote.
The statement noted that the Bank of Israel, which is responsible for issuing banknotes, recommends exchanging old-series notes for new ones. According to the IDF spokesperson, most of the old banknotes were withdrawn from circulation some time ago.
"If any of you still have such old banknotes, you are facing a serious financial risk. In the very near future, these banknotes will not be worth anything, and you will be left with nothing," she stated.
It was further claimed that the Hamas leadership is aware of the situation and is exploiting it to pass old-series banknotes to residents of the Strip.
"The terrorist leadership of Hamas is well aware of the situation and, as usual, is exploiting your distress and deceiving the residents of the Strip in an attempt to get rid of these banknotes, which will soon become invalid."
According to the IDF spokesperson, even Hamas members themselves are being harmed by this practice. While some members of the movement receive their salaries in old banknotes, it is claimed that Hamas leaders keep the new banknotes for themselves.
"The leaders only care about themselves, and they leave the field operatives and the residents of the Strip to bear the losses alone," said Captain Ella, urging residents not to accept payments in the old currency.
