Iran's revenge on the student who undressed: "They choked and injected. She struggled - and the needle broke"

An acquaintance has revealed the abuse she has endured: choking, forced hospitalization, threats against her family, and ongoing injections of psychiatric drugs. "It is the only way forward for her to avoid torture or execution."
Violence, choking with her head held between a policewoman's knees, forced hospitalization, and injections of psychiatric substances that have continued for two years—these are the consequences faced by an Iranian student who, in 2024, undressed at a university in Tehran in protest against the strict hijab laws enforced in the Islamic Republic.
The footage of the November 2024 incident went viral, sparking outrage from human rights organizations. The young woman, identified as 32-year-old mother of two Ahoo Daryaei, was filmed walking in her underwear at Azad University before being forcibly detained by authorities, who later claimed she suffered from mental health issues.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, based on testimony from a close friend, the incident began when Daryaei's hijab slipped while she was walking. Morality police officers shouted at her and attempted to drag her into a "punishment room." In a moment of desperation, Daryaei undressed herself to strip them of their power to humiliate her.
"She wanted them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't stop messing with her clothes. So she got so angry she started to remove them herself, threw them in front of them, and said: 'Okay, so what are you going to do?'" the friend recounted. During her arrest, she was held in a position that left her struggling to breathe.
At the police station, authorities attempted to inject her with a sedative. "The first time the needle actually broke, and the second time they managed to inject her, and she lost consciousness," the friend said. Daryaei woke up in a hospital with her limbs tied to a bed, repeatedly sedated whenever she asked for information.
The regime sought to discredit her protest by threatening her family and forcing her ex-husband to claim she had mental health issues. She was released after 18 days of forced hospitalization under strict surveillance.
To this day, Daryaei is required to receive monthly injections of flupentixol. "Her family said it is better for her to receive these injections and bear the label of a mental patient than to be hanged, imprisoned, or tortured," the friend stated. "It is the only way forward for her."
