A solemn farewell ceremony was held this morning at Ben Gurion International Airport for Czech diplomat Klara Schneiderova, who was killed in a tragic traffic accident near Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market.

Schneiderova, 30, who headed the Jerusalem branch of the Czech Embassy, lost her life on October 29 when a minibus driver lost control on Agrippas Street, striking her before crashing into a storefront. She was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in critical condition, where doctors later pronounced her dead. Police detained the minibus driver for questioning.

The repatriation ceremony was attended by Czech Ambassador to Israel Veronika Kuchynova, embassy staff, Gil Haskel, Chief of Protocol at Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and close friends. Her casket was flown back to the Czech Republic for burial.

Just a day prior to the fatal accident, Schneiderova had been introduced at a festive Czech National Day event at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem. During the gathering, she spoke movingly about completing a personal circle by returning to serve in the same country where her father had served as ambassador in the late 1990s.

The Czech Embassy expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a colleague and friend, describing her as an exceptional, warm, and prominent diplomat, while extending heartfelt condolences to her grieving family.
