Mongolian President Goes Viral After Bench-Pressing 100kg in Suit
Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh went viral after a video showed him bench-pressing 100 kg in a suit. At 58, the former prime minister is known for his Harley-Davidson riding, rock band performances, and environmental initiatives.

Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh has once again captured global attention after a video went viral showing him bench-pressing 100 kilograms while wearing a suit and tie during a military base visit. At 58 years old, the Mongolian leader decided to demonstrate his physical fitness to troops, stripping off his jacket and completing 20 repetitions on a bench press. This display of athleticism aligns with a persona that has long fascinated observers.
A Tough Image and Diverse Talents
Born with a first name that translates to "bronze axe," Khurelsukh has cultivated a notably robust public image. A former military officer and veteran of the Mongolian People's Army, he advanced through the political ranks, serving as a member of parliament and prime minister before assuming the presidency in 2021. Beyond politics, Khurelsukh is known as an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast who founded a local motorcycle club. In 2024, he famously hosted Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar on a motorcycle ride across the country.
Furthermore, the president plays guitar in a rock band named Pals, formed after his 50th birthday. His tough reputation also includes past comparisons to Russian President Vladimir Putin, bolstered by viral footage from 2012 when he struck a fellow lawmaker during a parliamentary dispute.
Environmental Ambitions and National Legacy
Despite his machismo image, Khurelsukh's presidency is heavily defined by ecological initiatives, most notably the "Billion Trees" national campaign launched in 2021. Aimed at combating severe desertification and land degradation in Mongolia by 2030, the ambitious project faces hurdles, with reports indicating that less than a tenth of the target has been achieved so far.
Khurelsukh's unique background reflects Mongolia's broader historical transition from a Soviet-backed socialist state to a vibrant democracy. He follows former President Khaltmaagiin Battulga, a former world sambo champion and martial arts expert. Together, these leaders highlight a distinct political culture where physical prowess and unorthodox leadership styles often take center stage.
