Kanye West Reconciles With Kid Cudi and Big Sean at Chicago Shows
Rappers Kid Cudi and Big Sean made surprise appearances at Kanye West's Chicago concerts, signaling a major reconciliation. Both artists publicly defended their decision to support West despite his past controversies.
As time passes, more prominent figures in the American pop and hip-hop scenes appear ready to forgive Kanye West and overlook his controversial antisemitic remarks from recent years. The clearest proof of this shift came during West's recent Thursday and Friday night performances in Chicago, where he hosted no fewer than 15 guest artists—including several who had previously cut ties with him.
Among the rappers joining West on stage were Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Twista, Young Thug, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, and Big Sean.
The Family Bond: Kid Cudi Speaks Out
Of all the guest appearances, the reunion with Kid Cudi was the most significant. Once close friends and collaborators on the 2018 joint album Kids See Ghosts, the two had experienced a highly publicized falling out. Cudi addressed critics who questioned his decision to share the stage with West again.
Kid Cudi defended his choice in a message to a critical broadcaster:
"That man is my brother. You don't have the relationship with him that I do. You're not family, so I get it. I've been around him, and I can honestly say talking to him now feels like when I first got signed to him, if not better. He dealt with mental health struggles for years, and now he's doing well. Everyone deserves some compassion when it comes to family. I was the hardest on him, demanding accountability. He apologized, and it was sincere."
Their feud began in 2022 when West removed Cudi's contributions from the Donda 2 album due to Cudi's friendship with Pete Davidson, who was dating West's ex-wife, Kim Kardashian. At the time, Cudi told Esquire that it would take a "fucking miracle" for them to be friends again. This Chicago performance marked their first time sharing a stage since Coachella in 2019.
Resolving a Multi-Million Dollar Feud: Big Sean's Return
Fans were also surprised by the appearance of Big Sean, who took the stage to perform I Don’t Fuck With You before transitioning into their joint hits Clique and Mercy, where they were joined by 2 Chainz.
Big Sean expressed his gratitude on stage:
"Chicago, I love you forever. Yeah, I love you, brother, and I appreciate you."
West responded warmly: "Love you, family."
This reconciliation follows years of public tension. West discovered Big Sean in 2007 and signed him to his G.O.O.D Music label. The relationship soured in 2021 when Sean claimed West owed him $6 million in unpaid royalties, prompting West to publicly call signing Sean "the worst thing I've ever done."
