Israel Katz after Supreme Court ruling: "We will win the elections and close Galei Tzahal"

Defense Minister Israel Katz commented today, Thursday, on the Supreme Court's unanimous decision to strike down the government's move to close the Galei Tzahal radio station. The minister clarified that he intends to bring the issue back for consideration if the government receives the public's trust again in the upcoming elections.

"I completely disagree with the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the government's move to close Galei Tzahal," said Katz, arguing that the court placed its own discretion above that of the government ministers elected by the public.

According to him, the government ministers believed unanimously that there is no place for a civilian radio station with political content within the IDF. Katz also addressed the Supreme Court's ruling that the government was authorized to make a decision on the matter and that closing the station does not require primary legislation.

"Since the Supreme Court ruled that the government was authorized to make the decision and rejected the claim that closing Galei Tzahal required primary legislation, when we win the elections, God willing, and receive the public's trust again, we will complete the handling of this issue," he stated.

Earlier, the Supreme Court unanimously struck down the government's decision to close Galei Tzahal, determining that it was made based on extraneous and improper considerations. The judges found that the decision-makers' dissatisfaction with the content broadcast on the station, which they perceived as contrary to their own positions, stood at the core of the decision.
