Apple is preparing to launch an ultra-premium device priced over $2,000. While early testers praise the build quality, the company has had to make compromises regarding the camera array and the familiar security mechanism.
After years of waiting and closely monitoring competitors like Samsung and Google, Apple is preparing to unveil its next major step in early September: its first foldable iPhone. The tech giant is aiming directly at the high end of the market, with a price tag that will cross the $2,000 threshold (about 6,000 shekels), positioning the device in the "ultra-premium" category.
According to a report by Bloomberg, testers who received early access to the device praise the build quality, the smooth folding mechanism, and the app display on the wide screen, which resembles the user experience of an iPad. There was also enthusiasm for the photo editing interface adapted to the new structure.
However, entering the world of foldable devices has forced Apple to make surprising compromises. The device will forgo the familiar facial recognition (Face ID) in favor of a touch-only unlocking mechanism. In addition, photography enthusiasts will discover that the camera array does not include an optical zoom lens—a component that Apple does not plan to upgrade in this model in the coming years. Apple hopes that this luxury device, even if not intended for every pocket, will serve as a "magnet" to attract customers to stores and increase exposure to the company's other products.
