Ramming a patrol car, fleeing from police — and caught while trying to steal another vehicle
A 19-year-old man is accused of fleeing in a stolen vehicle near Jerusalem, ramming a patrol car and injuring a policewoman. After his vehicle was stopped, he fled on foot and was wounded by gunfire during the pursuit. Despite his injury, he continued his escape until he was located inside another vehicle, which he was attempting to steal. On that same day, he attempted to steal three vehicles in total.
An indictment was filed today, Sunday, against a 19-year-old man who, according to the charges, attempted to steal three vehicles in one day, rammed a police patrol car during a chase, and was finally arrested inside another vehicle he was trying to steal in order to continue his escape.
The incident occurred on July 31, after police received a report regarding a vehicle theft near Jerusalem. Officers from the Harel station located the vehicle, which the young man was driving. Upon noticing the officers, he began to flee in a dangerous manner, and during the pursuit, he rammed a police patrol car. As a result of the impact, a policewoman was injured and evacuated to the hospital, and heavy damage was caused to the vehicles.
Wounded by gunfire and continued to flee
After the vehicle he was driving was stopped, the suspect exited it and began to flee on foot. During the pursuit, officers fired at him in order to effect an arrest, and he was wounded. According to the police, despite the injury, the young man continued his flight, prompting a search operation.
At the end of the search, the 19-year-old was located inside another vehicle. According to the indictment, he was attempting to steal it as well to continue his escape, and he was arrested on the spot by the officers. The police investigation revealed that during that same day, the young man attempted to steal three different vehicles. His detention was extended multiple times, and today the police prosecution unit of the Jerusalem District filed an indictment against him.
