IDF Extends Attack Drone Suspension Following Fatal Incident
The IDF has extended the suspension of attack drones until Sunday following an explosion that killed two reserve soldiers last week. An expert team is investigating the incident.
Following the explosion of the "Bat" drone last week, which resulted in the deaths of two soldiers, the IDF decided to extend the suspension of offensive drones until next Sunday, October 4, as a precautionary measure.
According to the IDF, the head of the Ground Forces conducted a situational assessment and decided to extend the halt on attack drones until Sunday. Divisions will be able to resume using them based on operational needs and reporting.
Two days ago, the IDF announced the halt following the tragedy in which Master Sergeant (Res.) Nadav Kelly, 24, and Master Sergeant (Res.) Ofek Moalem, 23, were killed. The drone, known as the "Bat," has been used in operations across all fronts since the war began.
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir ordered an expert team to investigate. The soldiers, stationed near Beit Hanoun, operated two drones; the first was successful, but the second crashed inside the base and exploded as they approached it. The investigation is examining a technical malfunction or potential electronic warfare by Hamas, though the latter is considered unlikely.
