Medical Center Establishes Fund in Memory of Fallen Officer Eliran Abergel
North Medical Center established a scholarship fund in memory of police officer Eliran Abergel, who fell at Be'eri on October 7, financing advanced training for social workers.

North Medical Center has announced the establishment of a new scholarship fund in memory of Staff Sergeant Eliran Abergel, an Israel Police officer who fell in battle at Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7, 2023. Established in cooperation with his family, the fund will finance advanced training for social workers at the hospital in the fields of loss and bereavement.
The new fund is designed to provide the hospital's social work team with professional tools to cope with crisis situations, loss, and bereavement, improving the emotional response given to patients and their families. Social workers in hospitals accompany families dealing with severe diagnoses, complex injuries, and the death of loved ones on a daily basis.
The Heroism of Eliran Abergel
Eliran Abergel, 29 at the time of his fall, served as an Israel Police combat officer, including in the Yasam unit, the motorcycle unit, and the Matpa unit. On the morning of the October 7, 2023 terrorist attack, he was mobilized to his unit and arrived to fight at Kibbutz Be'eri. During the battles, he was injured by an RPG strike, but continued to fight and protect civilians until he fell.
According to the medical center's announcement, he fought alone against terrorists in a house where a family was hiding in a safe room, saving lives. Eliran is survived by his parents, two sisters, and his wife Eden. About eight months after his fall, their son Ari Yehuda was born.
"The establishment of the dedicated training fund is an essential component in our ability to provide a complete medical envelope of body and mind," said Prof. Noam Yehudai, director of North Medical Center.
Continuing a Legacy of Giving
Eden Abergel, Eliran's wife and partner in the initiative, shared that the fund expresses the values that guided him in his life: giving, mission, and helping others. Through the scholarship fund, Eliran's legacy will continue to accompany families dealing with loss, ensuring they do not walk alone in their hardest moments.
