Hospitalized abroad and attacked by the doctor: "I am treating you but I hate your government"
While lying on a treatment bed in a hospital in Italy, Ido Manor experienced antisemitic accusations from the doctor treating him. In an interview alongside his wife Lyan, they recounted the difficult moments: "He attacked us personally and said that we are committing genocide."
During a trip to Italy, Ido Manor felt unwell and was taken to the hospital alongside his wife Lyan. While receiving an IV drip on a treatment bed, he experienced antisemitic accusations from the doctor treating him. In a joint interview with Nesli Barda on "Morning News," the two recounted the sense of frustration and humiliation they experienced.
"When the doctor heard that we were from Israel, he rolled his eyes," Ido said. "The nurse connected me to the IV, and then he said, 'I am treating you even though I hate your government.' We were in total shock, and he saw that we were in an emotional turmoil. I told him that he is a doctor and is not supposed to start a political discussion, and he said that he has the right to express his opinion."
Ido's wife, Lyan, described her reaction to the doctor's words: "I told him, 'We also do not agree with the government,' to remind him that we are not representatives of the government, but tourists who came to enjoy themselves. This is not the place and not the time for a political discussion, especially when he is lying on the bed connected to an IV. The doctor waited for this exact moment to say it. He started attacking us personally, saying that we are committing genocide and killing Palestinian babies. Tears started to stream down my face; I no longer knew what to say."
