Eyal Shani to open new restaurant in Tel Aviv, replacing a local landmark
Changes at the "Asif" complex continue: "Cafe Asif" will close this fall to reopen as Asif by Eyal Shani. Meanwhile, one of the chef's long-standing flagship restaurants, "Tzafon Abraxas," is preparing to relocate to a larger space.
The "Asif" complex on Lilienblum Street in Tel Aviv is undergoing significant changes. Following the closure of the cultural center previously located on the site, it has been confirmed that "Cafe Asif" will close this coming fall to make way for a new concept. According to a report by N12, chef Eyal Shani will take over the space to launch a new venue titled Asif by Eyal Shani, succeeding chef Omer Shaham and his team.
Official statements describe the new restaurant as a flagship project with a distinct Israeli character, focused on exploring the evolution of the local culinary language. The management of Asif expressed pride in the work of Shaham and his team, acknowledging their significant influence on the identity of the cafe and thanking them for their partnership.
This transition follows the closure of the Asif cultural center in April, though culinary operations at the site have remained active. While the center previously hosted exhibitions and research related to Israeli food heritage, the culinary library and rooftop farm continue to operate alongside the upcoming restaurant transformation.
At the same time, Eyal Shani's restaurant group is planning another major move: "Tzafon Abraxas," which has operated on Lilienblum Street since 2009, is set to leave its current location. The group is currently seeking a larger space in Tel Aviv to accommodate the restaurant's growing needs and relocate its operations.
