Eurohoops 2026/27 Power Rankings: Hapoel 7th, Maccabi 12th
Eurohoops released its 2026/27 EuroLeague power rankings, placing Hapoel Tel Aviv seventh and Maccabi Tel Aviv 12th. Both Israeli clubs face challenges due to playing home games abroad.
The EuroLeague season tips off this Thursday, and ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Eurohoops has released its official power rankings. The two Israeli representatives received entirely different assessments: Hapoel Tel Aviv was ranked seventh, while Maccabi Tel Aviv landed in the 12th spot.
Hapoel Tel Aviv Ranked Seventh
Eurohoops praised Hapoel's roster depth, noting: "Hapoel has a deep roster, and despite their usual dose of off-court drama, they reached the playoffs last season and are expected to be there again."
However, the portal highlighted the ongoing issue of home-court advantage as a major obstacle: "Of course, one must take into account the fact that they play their home games in Bulgaria. This was a very decisive factor in last season's playoffs against Real Madrid." Consequently, Hapoel is viewed as a strong playoff contender right from the start, though they sit behind five elite teams and Zalgiris Kaunas, who secured sixth place.
Maccabi Tel Aviv Placed 12th
The picture looks slightly different for Maccabi Tel Aviv. The Yellow-and-Blues are ranked 12th, with Eurohoops predicting they will fight for a playoff berth without guaranteeing a spot.
"Maccabi is also expected to battle for the playoffs, but are they sure to get there? If they had the option to play in Tel Aviv, the answer would probably be positive, but not when Belgrade is their home court," analysts questioned.
Like Hapoel, Maccabi's ranking is heavily impacted by playing their home fixtures abroad. They currently rank below Barcelona in 11th place and just ahead of Olimpia Milano, Partizan, and LDLC ASVEL.
EuroLeague Power Rankings Leaders
At the very top of the rankings, Panathinaikos secured the number one spot as the strongest team entering the season, bolstered by an expensive roster despite a preseason wave of injuries. Olympiacos follows in second, Real Madrid in third, and Fenerbahce in fourth, rounding out the top title favorites. Dubai BC, which heavily invested in building a roster aimed at the Final Four, takes fifth place. Zalgiris, featuring Jonas Valanciunas, sits sixth just ahead of Hapoel, while Crvena Zvezda, Anadolu Efes, and Valencia complete the top ten.
