Ahead of the 2026 elections: The Second Authority sets guidelines for TV and radio channels
The CEO of the Second Authority sent a sharp letter to the CEOs of broadcasting outlets, demanding strict adherence to five principles amid grave concerns regarding the spread of fake news and the manipulative use of artificial intelligence.

The Second Authority for Television and Radio has published new guidelines for the broadcasting bodies under its supervision, including commercial TV channels and regional radio stations, ahead of the upcoming elections to the Knesset. In this context, the Authority emphasized the increased responsibility placed on broadcasters during this sensitive period.
In a letter sent to the CEOs of channels and radio stations by the CEO of the Second Authority, Uri Sharaf, it was emphasized that the current election campaign is taking place in a complex period for Israeli society. Social polarization, security challenges, and significant public disputes make public discourse more charged, increasing the fear of deepening rifts in society.
In addition, the Authority noted that the expansion of technologies for disseminating misleading content makes it difficult for the public to distinguish between reliable information and manipulative or false information.
In light of this, Sharaf noted the central role of broadcasters in providing reliable and balanced information and instructed them to strictly adhere to five key principles designed to maintain public trust and the democratic process:
-
Respectful discourse — a responsible, substantive, and respectful public discussion must be maintained, while avoiding attacks, disparagement, or harm to individuals and groups.
-
Balance — a fair and balanced expression must be given to the variety of political views and opinions prevalent in the public.
-
Reliability — strict adherence to information verification and fact-checking is required, especially against the backdrop of the spread of false content and the increasing use of artificial intelligence tools.
-
Prevention of prohibited propaganda — the guidelines and provisions of the law applicable during the election period must be strictly implemented.
-
Proper disclosure — transparency towards the public must be ensured by presenting relevant political affiliations of commentators, interviewees, and participants in the broadcast.
Furthermore, the Second Authority clarified that every broadcasting body is required to exercise independent and professional judgment. It was emphasized that improper conduct by one outlet does not constitute a justification for a similar deviation by another, and unnecessary resonance should not be given to content that exceeds the boundaries of appropriate discourse.
