Helped accident victims — and was critically injured: "On the way to the hospital they resuscitated me twice"

Three months ago, 22-year-old Nadin Ismail decided to pull over to the side of the road to help victims of a car accident on Highway 6 — but then another vehicle arrived and hit her. Ismail was critically injured, but medical and rehabilitation teams brought her back to life through a long and complex recovery process.

This morning, Monday, she recounted in an interview with "Morning News" what happened:

"I was returning home to my family, and I saw an accident on the road. I got out to help people, and as soon as I got out, I was run over. They evacuated me to Kaplan Hospital. I was sedated and intubated for a week. They were supposed to amputate my arm and leg, but the doctors saved the limbs. They gave the blood a chance to flow, and it worked. I thank the entire staff that supported me until the end."

Reflecting on her decision, she said:

"I don't regret stopping, I am happy that I stopped to help them. God gave me help, I was in a difficult condition, they resuscitated me twice on the way to the hospital, they gave me many units of blood, but thank God I recovered."

Regarding her ongoing rehabilitation, she noted:

"It's a long road, but even if it will be long, I will get back on my feet."

On the impact on her studies, she added:

"I stopped them unfortunately, but with God's help I will return to them. I studied civil engineering, and it is hard to be dependent on others. Luckily, I have a medical team and family that support me all the time. They give me hope all the time."

When asked if she could have done anything differently, she concluded:

"I arrived at the accident and stopped on the shoulder, not on the road. I didn't think anything would happen, my friends were in the car, and it's lucky that they didn't get out and they weren't hurt."
