World Number One Elena Rybakina Withdraws from WTA Finals Due to Fatigue
World number one Elena Rybakina has withdrawn from the WTA Finals due to physical issues, following a troubling interview where she abruptly walked out. She finished a 54-win season with four titles and plans to return in March 2027.

World number one tennis player Elena Rybakina has dramatically withdrawn from the WTA Finals due to ongoing physical issues that left her unable to compete. The announcement followed the release of a troubling interview with Canal+ Poland, during which the Kazakh star appeared visibly exhausted, wearing sunglasses, and abruptly walked out after stating she felt unwell.
Rybakina released a statement expressing her deep disappointment over the decision. "I am very sad to announce to all my fans and supporters that I unfortunately have to withdraw from the WTA Finals this year. I had an amazing season, but my body is simply not physically ready to compete," she wrote. The 27-year-old added that she plans to take a prolonged break at home to rest, recover, and prepare for the 2027 season, with a planned return at Indian Wells in March.
The withdrawal comes on the heels of an extraordinary season for Rybakina, who amassed 54 victories against 14 defeats and captured four titles: the Australian Open, the US Open, Stuttgart, and Ningbo. She had been set to defend her title in Riyadh, where she went undefeated last year, but will now focus entirely on her recovery and getting back to full fitness.
