A 25-year-old resident of Eilat was arrested early yesterday morning following a brawl at a local nightclub. The suspect allegedly took advantage of the crowded venue to grope an underage girl who was also at the club. When the minor confronted him, he reportedly punched her in the face. Bystanders attempted to intervene, triggering a violent fight that ended only with the arrival of police officers who detained the suspect.

Police Station Incidents and Investigation

Hostilities continued after the suspect was brought to the police station. Intoxicated and belligerent, he repeatedly hurled insults at the officers and later directed verbal abuse at a female police officer who asked if he required legal representation. Investigators secured security camera footage and collected witness testimonies. Due to his intoxicated state, police initially sought a short remand to allow him to sober up before conducting a thorough interrogation.

Court Hearing and Defense Arguments

During the remand hearing at the Eilat Magistrate's Court, defense attorney Yael Darby questioned the legality of the minor's presence at the nightclub, asking, "Did anyone check what the minor was doing at the club?" Police representative Moshe Nissim stated that authorities had confiscated the venue's DVR system for review and planned to summon the club owner for a hearing. Nissim firmly maintained that age did not justify the suspect's actions, noting, "Even above 18, touching someone without consent is forbidden."

"Regarding her presence at the place, question marks arise. Even though this establishes a reasonable suspicion, there are many questions that should be raised which are relevant to the reasonable suspicion," attorney Darby argued, adding that the incident involved heavy drinking and that her client posed no danger or risk of tampering with the investigation.

Judge Sami Israel ruled in favor of the prosecution, extending the suspect's detention and emphasizing that the initial evidence established both reasonable suspicion and grounds for continued detention. The judge noted that the suspect's actions demonstrated dangerousness and a risk of obstructing justice, pointing to the assault on the victim, the insult to a public servant, and the indecent act against a minor.
