Behind Aviad's new song lies a complex family story

Musician and creator Aviad Daraf is releasing "Spread Wings," a new song written together with his son Hesed David Daraf that touches on his family's personal story. The song also features Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Bari, known by the nickname "Ha-Yenuka," who accompanies the track with music and a spoken word segment.

At the center of the song and its accompanying music video is the story of Tov-Ro'i, Aviad's 15.5-year-old son, who deals with a rare genetic syndrome called "Morquio," which affects, among other things, bones and growth. According to Aviad, the family's struggle over the years has become the source from which the new song grew.

The connection with "Ha-Yenuka" is not limited to participation in the song. According to the family, a personal bond has formed over the years between the Rabbi, Tov-Ro'i, and Aviad, which led to his inclusion in "Spread Wings."

"The struggle of Tov-Ro'i and the entire family often brings with it complex challenges," said Aviad. "But from Tov-Ro'i and from the struggle, I learned the most important lesson in life: to choose to see the good. From him, I learned that being in joy is a conscious choice of how to look at life, no matter what it puts in front of us."

According to the artist, the new song and clip were born out of this journey, out of love for his son, and out of the understanding that we can all choose light even in the most challenging moments.

In recent years, Aviad has been active mainly in the religious and spiritual music scene, incorporating pop, reggae, and content related to personal life and family into his work. Among his previous songs are "You Have a King Father," "Mom Thank You," and "Good Morning." Alongside his musical activity, he and his wife perform the show "Seeing Good, Living Faith," in which they combine music with their family life story and the struggle that has accompanied them over the years.
