From Ashdod and Ashkelon to Qalqilya: Two suspects in car thefts arrested
Two suspects were arrested in two separate cases of car theft from Ashkelon and Ashdod. A resident of Shuafat was arrested near the Sorek interchange on suspicion of stealing a Kia Sportage, and in another case, an illegal resident was arrested at the Qalqilya checkpoint after a vehicle stolen in Ashdod was found abandoned in the Modiin area.

Intelligence and operational activity by the Ashkelon and Ashdod police stations has led in recent days to arrests in two separate investigations into car thefts in the Lachish region, the police reported today, Monday. According to the police, the arrests come at a time when there is a decrease in the number of car thefts in the Southern District, alongside an increase in the solving of such cases.
In the first case, the Ashkelon station opened an investigation following the theft of a Kia Sportage from the city. As part of the investigation and focused activity by the station's detectives, the main suspect, a resident of Shuafat, was located yesterday. The suspect was arrested while driving on Highway 3, near the Sorek interchange, and was transferred for questioning at the police station.
At the same time, officers from the Ashdod station investigated another case of a car theft from the city. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned in the Modiin area, and investigators worked to track down the suspect.
According to the police, investigative actions led to the identity of the suspect, an illegal resident, who was located over the weekend and arrested at the Qalqilya checkpoint. The police state that in recent times there has been a decrease in the number of vehicle thefts in the Southern District, alongside an increase in the solving of theft cases.
Superintendent Ronen Amar, commander of the Ashdod station, stated:
"This is a fast, professional, and determined operation by the station's officers, who combined technological capabilities, intelligence, and high-quality field activity that led to the location of the suspect and his arrest."
He further added that the police "will continue to act with determination against property crimes and car thefts, while utilizing all the operational and investigative capabilities at our disposal, for the sake of the public's safety and their property."
