Fiverr and Wix Deal Collapses: High-Tech in Turmoil as Glilot Offices Remain Empty

The cancellation of Fiverr's 4,500-square-meter lease at the Wix campus reflects the broader crisis in Israeli high-tech. Faced with revenue pressures, the AI revolution, and widespread layoffs, companies are prioritizing lean operations over office expansion.

The unexpected cancellation of the mega-deal between Fiverr and Wix is much more than a failed lease agreement; it is a microcosm of the "perfect storm" shaking the Israeli high-tech industry. With the low dollar weighing on revenues, the AI revolution threatening traditional business models, and a wave of layoffs hitting the sector, leaving 4,500 square meters empty in Glilot serves as a mirror for an industry recalculating its route toward greater efficiency.

The deal was born in a different era. In 2017, Fiverr moved into a 4,000-square-meter complex at Beit HaIkarim in Tel Aviv. Over a year ago, CEO Micha Kaufman and Wix management agreed on a lease for 4,500 square meters at the Wix campus in Glilot. Now, Fiverr has notified Wix that the move will not take place.

Reasons for the Cancellation

The cancellation stems from a chain reaction: Cato Networks, which had planned to move to Beit HaIkarim, decided to occupy an additional floor in the Landmark building vacated by Cyera. This allowed Cato to expand internally, rendering the move to the Wix campus unnecessary.

Against this backdrop, Cyera has signed a Letter of Intent to acquire the Israeli startup Oasis Security. This move is expected to expand Cyera's platform by integrating data security with identity management and AI agents.

Challenges in the Glilot Area

For Wix, the cancellation creates a significant challenge in finding new tenants. Real estate experts note that office buildings in the Glilot area struggle to compete with the Big Fashion Glilot complex due to the latter's superior location and amenities. Estimates suggest Wix faces a loss of approximately 7 million shekels in annual rent.

The entire office market is currently facing a negative trend. Fiverr, a victim of the "software apocalypse" and AI-driven competition, intends to remain in its current offices. With its stock down 44% year-to-date and a workforce now totaling about 528 employees, the company has concluded that this is not the time for unnecessary real estate expenditures.
