This is what AI is for: The videos bringing the most beloved memes back to life
Every now and then an AI trend is born, usually it's mostly AI slop. But here we found something you can connect to. An AI content creator made a video where all the most recognizable memes from the golden age of the internet appear as characters around New York. Very quickly, copycats and sequel videos were born. How many of the memes do you recognize? It probably depends on your age and how much time you wasted online.
Before TikTok and other social networks turned our lives into an endless doomscrolling of AI videos, cats, and AI videos of cats, there were those who claimed the internet is the funniest place in the world. In various forums, memes were born that became legitimate ways of communication. Unfortunately, that time has passed and new memes are barely born, and even those that are, do not receive the deep meanings that the golden age of memes received.
Over the weekend, a new trend that brings all the familiar memes to life started running on X, formerly Twitter, and other social networks. The one who made the most viral video is the user @TechieBySA, who created a video where a person walks down the street and the camera moves every time to the right and left to find another meme that has come to life. You can guess the age and how much time you spent online by the amount of memes you recognize. If like us you recognized them all, you are probably around the age of 35 and have spent way too much time online. The original video of this AI creator was exposed to more than 5 million users, which of course led to part B, C and even copies by other users.
If you are wondering how he created the video, it is the WAN 3.0 model of the Chinese company Alibaba. Because of the ease of creating AI videos and the virality of Twitter, a copycat quickly arose for @TechieBySA who uploaded a video called Meme City, with a pretty similar concept and wrote:
«Welcome to Meme City! I gave the Glif agent a bunch of meme characters, and told it I need them placed in the same NYC street, same lighting, and then run H3 Max transitions between them without cuts, one continuous shot + add funny music».
Not all the responses were supportive. In accordance with the era, some of the surfers are disgusted by AI content and also call this video AI Slop, or AI trash. If you watch the videos you can recognize some of the memes we grew up on like: Distracted Boyfriend, Coffin Dance, Bad Luck Brian, Overly Attached Girlfriend, Success Kid, the doge dog and more. By the way, @TechieBySA also created a similar video about characters from well-known series on the streets of New York, and it is likely that soon we will see more similar examples.
