Cameron Payne Sparks Turkish Basketball Uproar After Elbowing Teen Rival
Former NBA player and Anadolu Efes guard Cameron Payne sparked outrage in Turkish basketball after elbowing 19-year-old Emirhan Serbest of Tofas, reportedly breaking two teeth during a heated match.

Anadolu Efes guard Cameron Payne triggered a major uproar in Turkish basketball following a violent incident during a match against Tofas. In the second quarter of the game, the former NBA player engaged in a physical confrontation with 19-year-old opponent Emirhan Serbest, reportedly breaking two of his teeth with an elbow.
Controversial Referee Decisions
Despite the severity of the altercation, the referees initially handed down only an unsportsmanlike foul, sparking outrage on the court and in the stands. Tofas head coach Nenad Canak or rather Massimo Cancellieri took an unprecedented step by retrieving the two broken teeth from the floor and placing them directly on the official scorer's table. Reviewing the footage on the monitor did not prompt the officials to upgrade the punishment at that moment, though Payne was later ejected in the second half after accumulating a technical foul.
Sharp Media Criticism
The incident drew ferocious condemnation from prominent sports journalist Necip Kapanli, who targeted Payne, the officiating crew, and the beIN Sports broadcasting team. Kapanli lambasted the American guard for his unsportsmanlike conduct, while also criticizing the commentators for attempting to frame the violent elbow as an accidental head-on collision. Local sports analysts continue to debate the broader disciplinary implications for the Turkish Basketball Super League.
