"Brutally attacked, hospitalized with a serious injury": Eisenkot's party issues a dramatic statement
Ilan Mans, a 76-year-old Yashar party activist, was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem with a brain hemorrhage after being attacked while attempting to remove a sign calling for the release of Yigal Amir. Gadi Eisenkot spoke with him, and the Yashar party called on the police to arrest the attackers and bring them to justice.
Last Friday, 76-year-old Ilan Mans, an activist for the Yashar party led by Gadi Eisenkot, was violently attacked while attempting to remove a sign calling for the release of Yigal Amir. Today (Monday), it was learned that he was hospitalized in the neurology department at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital with a brain hemorrhage.
Gadi Eisenkot, the party chairman, spoke with Ilan on Friday after the attack and offered his support. The Yashar! party stated today: "We send wishes for a speedy recovery to party activist Ilan Mans, who was brutally attacked last Friday while trying to remove a sign calling for the release of Yigal Amir and is currently hospitalized with a serious injury. The Israel Police must act immediately to arrest the attackers and bring them to justice."
Major (res.) Yair (Yaya) Fink, a candidate for The Democrats party, also responded to the incident in a Facebook post, writing: "Violence is the erosion of the foundations of democracy. Ilan Mans, a 76-year-old citizen, saw a sign on a bridge calling to release the murderer Yigal Amir. He did the most sane and necessary thing - he went to take it down. In response, he was brutally attacked by extremists and rushed to the hospital with a concussion and bruises."
"I know this situation closely. When I encountered such a sign, I also tore it to pieces myself. One cannot let such a disgrace pass in silence. If Bibi and Ben Gvir win the upcoming elections, they will release Yigal Amir. We must not let this happen. We will not be deterred, we will not be silent, we will not leave our country in the hands of extremists, and we will not abandon the public space. A speedy recovery and a huge hug to Ilan."
As recalled, Fink also experienced a similar incident last June, when a confrontation developed at the Ein Hemed interchange after Major (res.) Yair (Yaya) Fink, a candidate for The Democrats party, noticed a sign hanging on the bridge calling for the release of Yigal Amir, the murderer of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Fink stopped his vehicle and reached the bridge with the goal of removing the sign, which read: "Freeing Yigal Amir." In its place, Fink hung another sign that read: "We will not forget and we will not forgive 4.11.95 - Jewish terror is not my Judaism."
According to Fink's headquarters, after he removed the original sign, he encountered an attack by activists who supported the murderer's release. As seen in the video, one of the activists approached him, and then a physical confrontation developed. According to Fink's associates, one of the protesters tried to choke him during the exchange. Fink shouted at the participants: "You murdered a prime minister. Releasing Yigal Amir is what you want? Shame on you."
