Bezeq Reveals Underground Tel Aviv Tunnels Amid Triple Surge in AI Traffic
Bezeq showcased its underground communication tunnels in Tel Aviv, highlighting a threefold surge in AI data traffic and outlining nationwide fiber deployment plans by 2027.

Fifteen meters beneath the streets of Tel Aviv, hidden far from cars, cafes, and city bustle, lies a sprawling network of communication tunnels packed with fiber optics and cables. Bezeq hosted a media tour of its underground facilities to showcase the physical infrastructure powering Israel's digital life and to demonstrate how the artificial intelligence revolution is reshaping the subterranean world.
Bezeq operates four major communication tunnels beneath Tel Aviv spanning a total length of some 10 kilometers. Dug at depths of up to 15 meters, these tunnels connect the company's primary service areas to facilitate the transmission of heavy data loads via optical fibers. During the tour, company executives highlighted the soaring demand for data traffic driven by AI integration among private customers, which has tripled over the past three months alone.
Bezeq CEO Nir David noted that while data traffic used to double every two and a half to three years, the AI boom has dramatically accelerated growth rates, with certain segments doubling in a matter of months. Alongside infrastructure expansion, Bezeq is deploying AI-driven solutions across customer service, automated network monitoring for proactive fault detection, and advanced cybersecurity tools.
Addressing national coverage, Chief Technology Officer Yaron Zon stated that Bezeq aims to complete its nationwide fiber-optic rollout to every eligible household across Israel by the end of 2027. The facilities are also engineered for resilience, equipped with backup generators and fuel tankers capable of sustaining operations for roughly two weeks during prolonged power outages.
