Israelis Return Home via Ben Gurion Airport to Vote in Elections
Ben Gurion Airport records 32,200 daily arrivals as Israelis return from abroad to vote in the upcoming elections. Israir CEO Uri Sirkis notes inbound traffic exceeds departures.

Ben Gurion International Airport is recording an influx of approximately 32,200 arriving passengers per day over the past two weeks, coinciding with the upcoming elections. While these absolute figures do not drastically exceed daily routine traffic, executives point to a distinct behavioral shift.
Uri Sirkis, CEO of Israir Airlines, highlighted a significant trend on professional networks, noting that the volume of inbound travelers currently surpasses outbound passengers. Data from the Israel Airports Authority confirms that approximately 26,000 passengers depart daily compared to 32,000 arrivals.
Behind these statistics are Israeli citizens choosing to return home from thousands of kilometers away to participate in the democratic process. This mobilization reflects a profound sense of civic duty, belonging, and commitment as voters travel long distances to cast their ballots.
While the gap between arrivals and departures is notable, the current arrival figures remain comparable to seasonal baselines rather than peak holiday periods. In August, daily arrivals averaged 44,000, while September recorded 37,300. By comparison, last October saw 31,000 daily arrivals despite the holiday season.
Airport authorities project that passenger traffic will peak on Monday, with approximately 37,000 arrivals expected to pass through the terminal as election day approaches.
