Avida Bachar on the offer from Likud: "I am not going anywhere that lacks responsibility"
Avida Bachar, who lost his wife and son on October 7, warns against the continued strengthening of Hamas and demands fundamental change in Gaza. At the same time, he rejects the possibility of being placed on the Likud list and clarifies: "I reject this entirely."
Against the backdrop of the publication of the agreement outline for the Gaza Strip by the Peace Council, Avida Bachar, a resident of Be'eri who lost his wife and son in the October 7 massacre, spoke on 103FM about the security reality in the Gaza envelope, the future of the Strip, and reports regarding the possibility of him being placed on the Likud list.
Bachar warned that from his perspective, the assumption that Hamas would agree at some stage to disarm is unrealistic:
"I look at what is happening close to my home. Close to me is 4 km from the fence. Hamas continues to strengthen. They are talking here about some agreement that supposedly leaves Hamas disarmed. That will not happen. I don't think they are that stupid. And we lack the determination to understand that we simply don't want them there. That's all. We need to move to a determination that we don't want them, and we should say that every day."
According to him, Israel should set a completely different goal regarding the future of the residents of the Strip:
"Start pushing with all our might and tell the world to take them, because they cannot stay here. I want October 7 to be remembered as a Nakba for them. That they no longer have the land, that it is not theirs anymore, and that this thing is over. I don't want to settle there. But I certainly don't want it to remain theirs. And right now, they are sitting there."
Bachar argued that even creating a security buffer does not provide an answer to the future threat to the Gaza envelope communities. He noted that the threat would eventually extend to Tel Aviv if the current situation persists.
He later addressed the relations between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, arguing that the central issue is the level of determination that Israel demonstrates:
"President Trump values determined people. What do the Iranians have? Crazy determination. I wish we had the determination to tell the world that the Arabs in Gaza cannot stay. Not even one there."
Towards the end, Bachar was asked about the possibility of receiving a reserved spot on the Likud list, and clarified that at this stage he has no intention of joining a framework that he says does not take responsibility:
"I am not going anywhere that lacks responsibility, does not take responsibility, and doesn't even want to check what the responsibility was. Someone who ignores a situation? It doesn't suit me. Far from it. I reject this entirely. I am currently rehabilitating my home, my family, my kibbutz."
