Weapons, grenades and hundreds of rounds: stolen military ammunition found following the shooting in Carmit

The Southern District of the police conducted an operation and discovered a large amount of ammunition following a shooting from the Lakiya area that alarmed residents of the town of Carmit in the Negev. Among the weapons seized were M-16 rifles and 19 grenade launcher rounds.

First publication: Five suspects and a large amount of military ammunition were seized tonight (Sunday) during an operation by the Southern District of the Israel Police and the Border Police (Magav). The operation followed a shooting incident last night that reached the town of Carmit from the Lakiya area.

Security forces discovered two M-16 rifles, dozens of magazines, 19 explosive grenade launcher rounds, and hundreds of rounds of stolen IDF ammunition.

In total, as part of the operational activities conducted yesterday, 5 suspects were arrested and transferred for further investigation at the Ayarot station.

Three suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in a shooting and a brawl in the town of Lakiya, which alarmed the residents of nearby Carmit. This was stated by the police. Following a report of the incident, officers from the Ayarot station, fighters from the Sa'ar Brigade, and personnel from the Southern Magav district worked to locate those involved. During the operation, forces noticed a suspect who fired shots and fled on foot towards a wadi near residential homes.

Police and security forces conducted a foot chase using lighting equipment, eventually locating the suspect hiding in the bushes. During the operation, two additional suspects in their 30s were arrested. All three were transferred for investigation at the station.
