In a special training exercise, the US military demonstrated the CH-53K helicopter's ability to extract and transport an F-15 aircraft. The helicopter, intended to replace Israel's 'Yasur' fleet, ensures high battlefield survivability.
A CH-53K helicopter manufactured by Lockheed Martin-Sikorsky, operated by the US Marine Corps' main test and operational evaluation squadron, recently demonstrated the extraction and transport of an F-15 aircraft. The experiment was conducted as part of a course on the recovery of damaged or disabled aircraft, in cooperation with 85 military and civilian entities in Wisconsin, USA. The course featured real-world demonstrations of extraction and transport techniques for various aircraft in diverse scenarios, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
CH-53K 'King Stallion' helicopters are designed to replace the 'Yasur' fleet in Israel, offering high battlefield survivability, heavy-lift capabilities, a digital cockpit to reduce pilot workload, and low operating costs. The first of 12 helicopters for Israel has entered the final assembly line at Lockheed Martin-Sikorsky plants in Connecticut, with delivery scheduled for 2028.
The Air Force is seeking an option to purchase eight additional 'King Stallion' helicopters. However, the Ministry of Finance has raised objections, and the Ministerial Committee for Procurement has yet to approve the expansion, despite the IDF's stated requirement for the additional procurement.
As a reminder, an American aircraft was shot down over Iranian territory last April. While one pilot was located quickly, the search for the second lasted longer and caused significant concern. He was eventually located after surviving alone in the field and transmitting messages using technological means.
