Man brutally attacked after removing sign calling for Yigal Amir's release, hospitalized with brain hemorrhage

Ilan Mans was attacked last week after attempting to remove a sign that read "Free Yigal Amir" on the Hemed bridge in the Jerusalem area. Since last Thursday, he has been hospitalized in the neurology department after being diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage, according to the "Otef Atzurim" ("Detainee Support System"), which provides support and legal advice to activists.
According to the organization, while at home following the incident, Mans noticed that the fingers of his left hand had stopped functioning, causing him to drop objects. On Saturday, the symptoms returned in a more severe form, prompting his family to take him to the hospital.
A CT scan of his head confirmed a brain hemorrhage, which doctors at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital stated was caused by the blows sustained during the attack. He is expected to remain under observation for at least the next 48 hours.
Mans reports that police did not arrive at the scene after he was attacked and sustained numerous injuries. He has been accompanied by the "Otef Atzurim" system since the incident.
Yigal Amir is the assassin of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. On November 4, 1995, he shot Rabin following a peace rally in Tel Aviv. Amir was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Any call for his release continues to spark sharp public controversy in Israel.
