The global job market is undergoing a quiet transformation, yet many job seekers continue to use old methods that no longer work. While in stable times employers tended to invest in employee development and look for candidates with high potential and motivation, budget tightening in organizations has led to a new demand: employees who can show results and deliver value from day one.

CNBC reported that, according to an analysis by recruitment expert Farah Sharghi, who has recruited for giants like Google, TikTok, Uber, and The New York Times, hiring managers today skip resumes that state a "willingness to learn." Instead, employers are looking for solid proof of the ability to solve specific problems the organization is facing.

To break through the barrier in a competitive market, it is recommended to replace empty descriptions like "team player" or "excellent interpersonal skills" with precise numbers and data. Resumes should present measurable results: what improved in the previous company because of you, what the starting point was, and how processes were shortened. It is also recommended to shorten the cover letter to 2–3 focused paragraphs that present a practical solution to the company's problem.

For mid-career employees, the search for an external employer who will develop them has become almost impossible. The fastest way to advance today is internal mobility within the current organization. In case there is no room for advancement or there is a hiring freeze, the central question every employee must ask themselves is whether their skills continue to develop or are they eroding.
