The assault occurred in the second half of the match, with the score at 0:1 in favor of the victim's team. After losing the ball during a counterattack, the attacker slid into her opponent and immediately kicked her twice in the head. A teammate of the victim attempted to intervene but was also struck, and according to reports, the attacker subsequently assaulted the referee as well. The match was immediately abandoned. The victim regained consciousness and was transported to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion. The video of the incident went viral, and according to Brazilian media, the attacker has been suspended from all municipal competitions for five years. No official statements have been released by the teams or the tournament organizers.
