Five killed in Michigan shooting spree across three scenes

Five people were killed on Friday during a series of murders in Missaukee County, Michigan. The grave events unfolded across two different homes and a wooded area. Following a police manhunt, the suspect was also found dead. The investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy is ongoing.

The incident began when Michigan State Police arrived at a home in Missaukee County, located approximately 272 kilometers northwest of Detroit, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered three people dead and one person who was seriously wounded and urgently evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect, 39-year-old Chad Hickman, fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. During extensive searches in the area, officers discovered a fourth victim dead in another nearby home.

Continuing the manhunt, law enforcement located Hickman's vehicle in a wooded area near Lake Withlak. At the site, the suspect's body was found alongside another person, also deceased. Police confirmed they are investigating a shooting incident but have refrained from confirming the exact cause of death for each victim, and it remains unclear whether there was a personal or social connection between those involved.

Undersheriff Ashley Miller stated:

«This situation is heartbreaking for the community and very challenging for the investigators involved. The police are committed to conducting a thorough investigation and will provide updates as they become available.»

Police have asked the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues. The names and ages of the deceased have not been released pending official notification of their families.
