A massive $55 billion deal: Gaming giant is being sold
The completion of the massive acquisition of the popular game manufacturer by the Saudi wealth fund and its partners raises difficult questions regarding the future of beloved titles, the payment model, and the possibility of widespread layoffs at the company.

One of the largest deals in the history of the gaming industry has been completed, after an investor group led by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, PIF, acquired Electronic Arts, one of the world's gaming giants, for $55 billion.
The deal was executed through a consortium that includes, alongside the Saudi fund, the private equity firm Silver Lake and Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners fund. As part of the move, all shares of the company, which develops, among others, EA FC games, The Sims series, and Battlefield games, were acquired.
Following the acquisition, EA will cease to be a public company and will leave the stock exchange. This means that the company's shares will no longer be available for trading by private investors, and it will operate as a privately held company. The company's CEO, Andrew Wilson, is expected to continue in his role even after the completion of the deal.
This is a leveraged buyout of unusual scale, with a significant portion of the financing based on debt that will be placed on the acquired company. This move is attracting great interest among analysts, as debt repayments may affect how EA operates in the coming years.
The deal is considered the largest leveraged buyout in history, and one of the largest deals ever made in the gaming world, after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft for $69 billion.
Beyond the business aspect, the acquisition highlights the expansion of Saudi capital into the fields of entertainment, sports, and global gaming. As part of Saudi Arabia's economic diversification strategy, the country has been investing huge sums in recent years in areas not directly related to the oil industry.
However, the deal also raises questions among the gaming community. Due to the volume of debt taken for the acquisition, there are assessments that EA may make significant changes to the company's structure, including possible layoffs and the search for new revenue sources. Such moves could affect future game prices, payment models, and the content offered to players.
The acquisition marks another stage in the consolidation trend of the gaming industry, as giant companies seek significant financial backing to compete in an increasingly competitive market.
