If you haven't encountered this madness in your feed yet, it's probably time to refresh your algorithm. Forget everything you knew about French toast or complicated desserts: this is a divine upgrade to simple bread that provides a decadent, quick, and comforting dessert with minimal effort.

Imagine a bite that starts with the sharp crunch of a caramelized sugar layer that cracks in the mouth, continues with a rich, velvety, and warm vanilla cream, and ends with buttery and soft bread. A combination that is simply genius.

So how do you make this perfect dessert at home in 10 minutes? Here is the full recipe.

Ingredients

For the crème brûlée:

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 10 g sugar

  • 50 g milk

  • 50 g 38% whipping cream

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • A few drops of high-quality vanilla extract / vanilla paste

For the base and finish:

  • 3 thick slices of bread, preferably brioche or challah

  • 3 tbsp white or light brown sugar for caramelization

Preparation method

Point 1: Prepare the cream

Place all the cream ingredients into a small pot: yolk, sugar, milk, cream, cornstarch, and vanilla. Whisk well while the mixture is cold until you get a completely smooth texture without lumps. Turn on medium heat and cook while stirring continuously. Within a minute or two, the mixture will start to thicken quickly and turn into a rich, shiny, and velvety cream. As soon as this happens, remove from the heat immediately.

Point 2: Prepare the base

Take the bread slices and use the back of a spoon or a glass to create a deep indentation in the center of each slice. Place in an air fryer or a preheated oven at 180°C for about 5 minutes, until the bread becomes golden and crispy on the outside.

Point 3: Assemble and torch

Remove the toasts and fill each indentation with the hot and rich cream. Smooth gently. Sprinkle a tablespoon of sugar evenly over each slice so that it covers the cream. Using a hand torch, burn the sugar in circular motions until it melts, bubbles, and turns into an amber-colored caramel layer. If you don't have a torch, you can use the top grill of the oven on the highest heat, under close supervision.

Just before serving, let the toast rest for about a minute so that the caramel layer hardens and turns into thin, crispy "glass".

Upgrade tip:

You can add fresh strawberries or tart berries on top, which balance the sweetness and add perfect freshness.
