Developing a new drug is one of the longest, most expensive, and most complex processes in the medical world. Despite years of investment and billions of dollars, most drugs that enter clinical trials do not ultimately reach the market. Now, the Israeli startup QuantHealth has announced the completion of a $45 million funding round aimed at expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) platform, which seeks to transform how clinical trials are planned and conducted.

Artificial intelligence before human trials

Instead of starting a clinical trial and discovering only after months or years if it succeeded, the QuantHealth platform allows for computer simulation of the trial during the planning stage. Using AI models, the system estimates how different patient populations are expected to respond to treatment, identifies vulnerabilities in the trial design, and suggests improvements before the first participant is recruited. According to the company, this approach may reduce the risk of failure, shorten development timelines, and significantly lower costs for pharmaceutical companies, ultimately accelerating the arrival of new treatments for patients.

More diseases, more data, more capabilities

The funding will be used to develop the next generation of the company's AI models, increase data repositories, and expand the ability to simulate clinical trials across a wider range of diseases. Additionally, the company plans to expand its product portfolio to support pharmaceutical companies from trial planning through to the commercial stages of drug launch. According to QuantHealth, the platform has already performed simulations of more than 600 clinical trials across over 30 medical indications, and the company aims to expand coverage to more than 40 diseases, including cancer, heart disease, and inflammatory conditions.

Does not replace clinical trials — but helps plan them

It is important to emphasize that this technology does not replace clinical trials on humans, which remain a necessary step toward drug approval. Its goal is to help researchers and pharmaceutical companies make more informed decisions at the planning stage, reduce costly mistakes, and increase the likelihood of success. If the field continues to develop as experts predict, AI may become a central tool in drug development in the coming years, contributing to faster access to innovative treatments for patients.
