After more than four decades of journalistic work, veteran foreign affairs commentator Oren Nahari is saying goodbye to the microphone. Following a deterioration in his health, Nahari recorded his final radio program and shared with pain his struggle with ALS, which has gradually impaired his ability to speak and breathe.

In a report broadcast on Kan News, Nahari said that he moved the recording studio to his dining table at home, with the goal of completing a podcast series on the 250 years of independence of the USA:

"I no longer have the strength. You can hear it. It is harder for me to speak, it is harder for me to breathe. But this is a project I am putting my signature on. One of the last ones. I can take a bow and leave the stage quietly."

Nahari also described the loss of physical independence and the feeling that the disease takes a heavy toll on him every day. "There is some dwarf sitting on my shoulder and marking for me every day the decline in my abilities," he said, adding that one of the things that pains him the most is the time he will not get to spend with his family. "I am sad about the years I could have been with Vered, the children, and the grandchildren. I could have been one of the best grandfathers in history."

In his final broadcast, Nahari chose to say goodbye to the listeners with a personal message:

"I am not saying goodbye to the world yet, I am only saying goodbye to the studio and the microphone. Remember that the world is wide and complex, you need to look at it with open eyes. That was my mission, and that is my last request of you. Continue to look, to listen, to ask questions, and not to take things for granted."
