Grandmother from Rishon LeZion charged with assaulting 9-year-old for refusing to wish her grandson a happy birthday
The birthday party was interrupted by an air raid siren, but inside the safe room, the drama had only just begun. According to the indictment, the 64-year-old grandmother grabbed the 9-year-old boy by the ear, pressed his head against the wall, and threatened to hit him. As a result of the incident, he fell and sustained injuries.
A children's birthday party in Rishon LeZion turned into a violent incident inside a safe room (MAMAD), according to an indictment filed at the city's Magistrate Court. The grandmother of the 10-year-old birthday boy is accused of grabbing a child by the ear, pressing his head against the wall, and threatening to beat him after he refused to wish her grandson a happy birthday. The indictment charges her with assault and making threats.
According to the indictment, the incident occurred in March during an air raid siren. The complainant, a boy aged about 9 and a half, was attending a party held for the grandson of the defendant, who is about 64 years old. At a certain point, a siren sounded, and the defendant, the complainant, and other children present entered the safe room.
Inside the safe room, the grandmother told the children: "Whoever does not say happy birthday to E. will be sent home." The victim replied that he did not wish to say happy birthday to the grandson. Following this, it is alleged, the grandmother turned to him and said: "Who are you anyway?", grabbed his left ear and twisted it, while simultaneously pressing his head against the wall.
According to the charge, the confrontation did not end there. The grandmother told the child:
"If you speak to me like that one more time, I will beat you."
As a result of her actions, it is claimed, the child fell to the floor and replied to her: "You will not beat me."
The indictment alleges that in response to the child's words, the grandmother grabbed his left ear again, crushed it, and pressed his head against the wall twice. As a result of the incident, the child sustained injuries to his cheek and left ear.
