Iranian official: No contacts with the US on extending the ceasefire

A senior Iranian official clarified today, Wednesday, ahead of the expiration of the 60-day ceasefire set in the memorandum of understanding, that no discussions are being held with the United States regarding its extension. The official, speaking to Reuters, presented a hardline position from Tehran and placed the responsibility for the deadlock on the administration in Washington, claiming that it was the US that violated previous agreements.

According to the Iranian official, from Tehran's perspective, there is no official start date for the current ceasefire, and therefore there is no meaning or need for discussions on extending it. He accused the United States of violating the agreement and unilaterally withdrawing from it, which he says prevents any possibility of real progress through diplomatic channels between the countries at this time.

The official noted that one of the only issues on the agenda is the question of the United States returning to the memorandum of understanding and defining clear timelines for implementing various commitments. However, he emphasized that as of now, no progress has been made on this issue, and accused the American administration of dragging its feet and lacking the will to reach practical understandings.
