A global technical malfunction in Petlibro devices has caused automatic feeders, waterers, and litter boxes to stop working. Pet owners currently on vacation are facing difficulties as they cannot feed their pets remotely.

In many homes around the world, an "August protocol" takes place every year: people head out for vacation—often abroad—and leave their pets at home with smart feeders to handle the feeding schedule. But what happens when the technology crashes exactly when you are on the other side of the world? A global malfunction in popular feeders has left many pets hungry and their owners in a state of distress.
Devices of all types are failing
A widespread malfunction has caused feeders, waterers, and automatic litter boxes from Petlibro to stop working, failing to dispense food or water to animals at home as programmed. The American manufacturer is one of the most popular in this field on sites like Amazon, and many Israelis have also purchased their devices through various buying groups.
According to a report in The Verge, Petlibro emphasized that settings configured and saved directly on the devices should continue to work, unlike those dependent on cloud synchronization. However, many users report that this is not the case, and for feeders from the company's Granary and RFID series, malfunctions are still being recorded. Some of these devices include cameras to monitor feeding, but users attempting to check on their pets discovered they had no access to the cameras, and the company's app was not functioning correctly. Along with the feeders, reports were received regarding malfunctions in cat water fountains from the Dockstream series and automatic litter boxes from the Luma series.
In its first official statement, the company said:
"We are experiencing a malfunction affecting some of the ways the Petlibro app operates."
Petlibro claims they are currently working to restore service and ensure systems are running stably. Although the company noted that "most services are returning to normal operation," there are still users reporting ongoing issues with their devices.
Malfunctions and bugs happen, but the biggest problem with this type of failure is the timing. Many people rely on these devices to feed and hydrate their pets while traveling for several days or even while in another country. A prolonged malfunction can be a nightmare for the animals themselves and for those who left them alone, now forced to find someone with a house key to come and feed them manually—just like in the old days.
