Baby abandoned in a bag with umbilical cord still attached - saved from death thanks to a dog

A delivery driver driving at night on a side road in Thailand did not imagine that a routine trip would end in a dramatic life-saving event. The young woman noticed a stray dog on the side of the road playing suspiciously with a tied black plastic bag, and when she approached to check what it was, she discovered a newborn baby inside who had been abandoned, with the umbilical cord still attached to its body.

It soon became clear that the dog not only drew her attention to the incident, but was the one who paved the way for his rescue: the dog dragged the bag and tore holes in it, which allowed the baby to receive oxygen and breathe until the moment of rescue.

"If not for the dog, the baby would have suffocated," she said.

24-year-old Rachanok Kolbut, who found the bag containing the newborn, told local media that she was riding home in Pathum Thani province, located north of Bangkok, through a partially lit section of road used for dumping waste. After seeing the dog and opening the bag, she took the baby to her home and called emergency services. Police and rescue teams who arrived at the scene found the newborn surrounded by neighbors who had stepped in to help, clean him, and provide him with initial treatment.

"The dog's attention and action were decisive," Kolbut recalled excitedly, adding that if the dog had not torn holes in the bag, the baby could have suffocated to death within a short time. The local police have opened an investigation, and the initial assessment is that the newborn was abandoned following an unwanted pregnancy.
