A year later: Yinon Levi, who shot and killed a Palestinian teacher, is charged with manslaughter
According to the indictment, the contractor ordered a new road to be broken through on private land, which led to a confrontation with the village residents. The teacher, Ouda Muhammad Khalil al-Hadalin, documented the confrontation that broke out - as well as the moment he was shot to death.
The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment today, Thursday, at the Beersheba District Court against Yinon Elia Levi (33) from Ma'on, who shot and killed Palestinian teacher Ouda Muhammad Khalil al-Hadalin a year ago. The indictment charges Levi with manslaughter, alleging that he ordered a road to be broken through on private land, which led to a gathering and a confrontation at the site.
During this confrontation, according to the prosecution, Levi fired toward an area where people were present, causing the death of Ouda al-Hadalin. In the indictment, filed by Adv. Noga Kedar from the Southern District Attorney's Office, it is claimed that Levi served as an earthworks contractor for the establishment of a new neighborhood in the Har Hebron Regional Council, employing a 17-year-old minor as a backhoe driver.
According to the indictment, at the end of the workday, Levi ordered the driver to break through a new path, even though it was not marked in the work plan and passed through private land. When village residents gathered to stop the backhoe, the driver operated the digging tooth toward one of those present, causing him head and shoulder injuries. Despite this, Levi signaled the driver to continue and break through another fence.
"Who is throwing stones?", Levi shouted, before attacking one of those present and hitting the phone of a person who was documenting the event.
At a certain stage, Levi cocked his pistol, moved away from the gatherers, and fired one bullet parallel to the ground in the direction of village buildings where people and children were staying. Ouda Muhammad Khalil al-Hadalin, who was standing about 20 meters away in the courtyard of the community center, was fatally wounded while documenting the event. Immediately afterward, Levi cocked the pistol again and fired another shot into the air.
Levi is charged with manslaughter, trespassing while carrying a weapon, and malicious damage.
