Turkey Demonstrates Drone Anti-Submarine Warfare in Mediterranean Exercise
Turkey showcased advanced anti-submarine warfare capabilities with the Bayraktar TB3 drone during the Seawolf I 2026 exercise in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Turkey has demonstrated advanced anti-submarine warfare capabilities using the Bayraktar TB3 armed drone during the Seawolf I 2026 military exercise. Operating from the TCG Anadolu, the UAV successfully deployed sonobuoys using the locally developed SAS POD system.
The exercise, running from September 20 to 25, 2026, spans the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, Aegean Sea, and the Eastern Mediterranean. Units from the Turkish naval, land, air, and coast guard forces are participating to showcase indigenous military hardware.
During the anti-submarine warfare scenario, the Bayraktar TB3 worked alongside a maritime patrol aircraft. The drone dropped two sonobuoys into the sea from wing-mounted SAS PODs and processed multi-source underwater data in real time.
This development comes as Israel expands its own naval fleet with the acquisition of a new submarine, INS Drakon, highlighting strategic competition and technological advancements in the Mediterranean basin.
