The IDF is preparing for an escalation in the West Bank against the backdrop of three severe terror attacks that occurred in the last 24 hours and concerns regarding copycat attacks and nationalist crimes. This was learned today, Friday, by Walla. Following a situational assessment, the Operations Directorate of the General Staff decided to reinforce the region with an additional combat battalion.
According to military sources, the attacks occurred after a tense period characterized by a high number of alerts. At the same time, a series of arson attacks has increased friction between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank, particularly in farm areas. The IDF is now concerned about further attacks against soldiers and Israeli civilians.
Meanwhile, published footage shows a large group of masked settlers running toward the village of Jatt. This occurred just a few hours after the terror attack at Havat Gilad in Samaria.
It was further learned that in the coming hours, broad operational activity is expected to begin across all regional brigades, focusing on the arrest of wanted individuals and operations in friction zones. The focus of the activity will be in the city of Nablus (Shechem) and the entire Samaria region.
"The terror attack that occurred yesterday, in which Itamar Cohen, who is considered a symbol in the area, was seriously wounded, could lead to acts of nationalist crime against Palestinians," security sources stated.
The IDF, the Border Police (MAGAV), and the Israel Police are preparing for this possibility.
