IDF Concludes Investigations into Several Incidents in the Gaza Strip

The IDF published a series of investigations on Wednesday regarding unusual events that occurred during the war in the Gaza Strip. These investigations were conducted to ensure adherence to international and Israeli legal standards. The findings serve as a basis for command decisions and potential criminal reviews by the Military Advocate General. Since the war began, approximately 150 incidents have been investigated, with legal decisions recently finalized for five high-profile cases.

Death of WCK Employees (April 2024)

On April 1, 2024, seven World Central Kitchen (WCK) employees were killed in an airstrike. The investigation found that IDF forces mistakenly identified the convoy as being hijacked by Hamas operatives. The presence of uncoordinated armed security and a deviation from the agreed route led to this misidentification. Following the incident, the Chief of Staff dismissed two officers and reprimanded several commanders. No criminal offense was found to have been committed.

Death of Hind Rajab (January 2024)

On January 29, 2024, in Gaza City, IDF fire hit a vehicle belonging to the Hamada family, resulting in the deaths of five passengers, including Hind Rajab. Two Red Crescent paramedics were also killed while attempting to reach the scene. Due to failures in coordinating the ambulance's movement, the case has been referred for a Military Police Investigation (MPI).

Incidents in Tel al-Sultan (March 2025)

On March 23, 2025, during an ambush against Hamas operatives, IDF forces fired upon several vehicles, which were later identified as a fire truck, ambulances, and a UN vehicle. Fifteen Palestinians were killed, six of whom were affiliated with Hamas. The Chief of Staff issued a command note to the 14th Brigade commander and dismissed the deputy commander of the Golani Reconnaissance Unit. The case is now under MPI review.

Death of MSF Employees in Khan Yunis (February 2024)

On February 20, 2024, an IDF strike on a building in Khan Yunis killed two women. The investigation concluded that the building was targeted as a perceived military threat, and forces were unaware it belonged to Doctors Without Borders (MSF). While no MPI was ordered, the Military Advocate General is reviewing the need for disciplinary action.

Death of MSF Employees in Gaza City (November 2023)

On November 18, 2023, two people were killed during an incident involving an MSF convoy. The convoy, having attempted to return to Gaza City without proper coordination, was perceived as a threat. Soldiers fired warning shots to stop the vehicles. The investigation found that the deaths were likely caused by shrapnel from warning fire. No direct fire was aimed at the convoy, and no criminal offense was identified.
