The IDF and the Shin Bet are investigating whether Hamas operatives in Turkey orchestrated the terrorist attack near the Yehuda Junction, close to Route 35 in the Hebron area. Security officials increasingly assess that the planners and handlers operated on behalf of Hamas in Turkey, though local direction or independent initiative are also being examined.

Defense establishment assessments indicate that Iran and Hamas factions in Turkey and Gaza have sought to instigate attacks to disrupt the upcoming elections in Israel. The military emphasizes that while there is no specific prior warning, a working assumption based on broad intelligence suggests Hamas elements encourage attacks ahead of the vote.

During the investigation, security forces examine whether the terrorists were directed by external elements and what their intended target was. Large quantities of rifle ammunition and numerous magazines were found in the terrorists' vehicle and on their bodies. The IDF and Shin Bet assess the pair intended to carry out a major attack against Israeli civilians. The intervention of the Aryeh Battalion troops, who engaged and neutralized the terrorists, prevented the plot.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. "The outcome of the clash with the terrorist cell is painful, but the preliminary review shows that the Aryeh Battalion's decisive action prevented a severe attack against Israeli citizens," Zamir stated. "We will act with force, pursue, and reach everyone involved."

Addressing security alerts and increased election preparations, Zamir warned those behind the plot: "Based on our situational assessment, we prepared for potential escalation in Judea and Samaria, reinforcing forces and deploying the 98th Division alongside numerous units. We will strike forcefully and track down all perpetrators."

Security officials attach great significance to verifying whether the attack was directed by Hamas in Turkey. Confirming this assessment could prompt Israel to exact a heavy price from Hamas, potentially viewing the Turkish-based network as having opened a violent front via Judea and Samaria.
